It runs from Big Lake to downtown Minneapolis, stopping at stations in Elk River, Ramsey, Anoka, Coon Rapids, and Fridley. It connects with buses for service to and from St. Cloud. The Northstar Line began passenger service on November 16, 2009. It uses existing track and right-of-way owned by the BNSF Railway. The line is operated by Metro Transit, the public transportation agency for the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area. The Northstar Line offers six trains running in the morning and evening rush hour periods, and limited service on weekends and holidays. Trains depart from Big Lake Station every hour on weekdays and every two hours on weekends. The trip from Big Lake to downtown Minneapolis takes about 50 minutes. The Northstar Line is a convenient and affordable way to travel between the Twin Cities and the North Metro. Tickets are $5.25 for a one-way trip or $10.50 for a day pass.
