Audi Q7 e-tron 3.0 TDI quattro is an exceptional SUV. And as hybrid it has a unique powertrain and heat management. Let's see how it works! Audi Q7 3.0 TDI e-tron quattro is the world's first plug-in hybrid passenger car with six-cylinder diesel and four wheel drive. And it won't be Prius-like experience since e-tron's hybrid system power means 373 PS delivered to all four wheels. Acceleration from rest to 100 km/h takes only 6,2 seconds, maximum torque of 700 Nm remains available through the wide rev range, and fuel consumption... 1.8 l/100 km? 130 mpg? Yes, but that's pure theory. Why? Because the battery is loaded to the full before start of the testing procedure. That means that Audi Q7 e-tron 3.0 TDI quattro - as any other hybrid car - drives pure electric during main part of the test. Under the bonnet of Q7 e-tron you will find the old and well known turbodiesel V6 in it's latest generation. It pumps out a punchy 258 PS and 600 Nm at ridiculous 1250 rpm. Not bad :) Audi e-tron's battery provides 17,3 kWh of energy at a rated voltage of 308 volts. Full charging takes "only" two-and-a-half hours at 7,2 kW industrial outlet. 2,5 h waiting at charging station to load such a modest battery? That looks weird by today's ev standards. Using a household outlet Q7 e-tron needs 8 h to achieve full load. The diesel hybrid version of Audi Q7 3.0 TDI should be well equipped since several options from the basic Q7 (i.e. Full LED headlights, MMI navigation plus, virtual cockpit) are standard for e-tron 3.0 TDI quattro. Audi also developed unique thermal management system with integrated heat pump which allows heat from electrical drive components to be transmitted to cabin for heating the passenger area during cold days. Of course, heat produced by inverters and electric motors can not be compared with heat loss of an average compustion engine - it would be like comparing hair dryer to volcano.
