After yesterday's long day on Taschhorn, it might have been easier to descend straight down the approach route. BUT. But, as I wrote earlier, the unprotected, rocky traverse on that approach seemed very dangerous, and since our ascent, even more snow had fallen... Besides, being so close to Alphubel, it would have been a shame not to climb it! I led most of the relatively easy (I-II) ascent to the summit, although, as always on this trip, fresh snow on the rock made it more difficult. The most challenging part was a smooth rock slab with scarce holds, but luckily, the anchor from a sling was rock solid. So, I led the way, followed by Szymon and Janek and we all got through that section without any problems. After two hours, we reached the summit ridge at a magical moment: the joy of reaching the top without the stress of a difficult descent (because the descent from Alphubel is easy) sunrise over Weissmies the views stretching from yesterday’s Taschhorn (that ridge is long indeed!) through Monte Rosa to Weisshorn The easy summit plateau allowed us to fully savor the moment, and the photos turned out great too. On the way down, I was grateful that I was moving down through the deep, fairly steep snow, and as the third person in line. We avoided a few crevasses, descended to the ~3800m pass, and continued downward. At Taschhütte, it was the end of the season—they were airing out the quilts in front of the hut. And us? We kept descending... We exchanged photos along the way and reached the campervan. We were supposed to return yesterday, but due to the long day on Taschhorn, we were only descending today. Adam went for a short hike, and the camper was locked. He did leave the keys, but we didn’t read the message, so Janek and Szymon waited while I descended further in case Adam went down, looking for the internet. It turned out he wasn’t, but just as I sat down on a bench at a road bend, they arrived. Szymon had to go back to work and the rest of us discussed plans —ultimatelly, we settled on Aletschhorn. Janek was supposed to go too but he changed his plans to cycling, so it’ll just be Adam and me. But more on that in the next episode! (Polish version on strava: / strava )
