Rhythm & Ribbons: The Art of Movement and Rhythmic Gymnastics

Rhythm & Ribbons: The Art of Movement and Rhythmic Gymnastics is a short film made with children in Dublin 8 and artist Karen Aguiar. In May and June 2023, Karen worked with 12 children aged 7 - 12 through a series of workshops at Richmond Barracks, as part of our Creative Residency in Art & Sport. Each week the children learned basic gymnastics moves, developing their skills as the project progressed. They also made their own rhythmic gymnastics ribbons, an important piece of equipment in the sport. Together they worked with filmmaker Simon Fitzpatrick of KILIG Productions and musician Ryan McCann to create a short film. Rhythm & Ribbons is part of our Creative Residency in Art and Sport, a Creative Residency made by Dublin City Council Culture Company in partnership with the Dublin City Sport & Wellbeing Partnership.
