Artis Wodehouse pianolizes (foot pumps) James P. Johnson's 1927 piano roll rendition of The Black Bottom Dance on a restored 1912 player piano. Johnson's rendition features a boogie-woogie bass line and a rich set of imaginative variations. The roll is QRS 3792. The Black Bottom overtook the Charleston as the most popular dance during the mid-1920s. There were several versions of this dance, but this tune version is by Bradford and Horsley. This version could also in part be considered a classic 12-bar blues. James P. Johnson (1894-1955) was one of the most significant African-American performer/composers of the first half of the 20th C. He made 57 piano rolls that trace his development from late ragtime through early jazz, to Harlem Stride piano, a style which he is credited for innovating. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_P... Wodehouse provides the viewer/listener with a simple annotated roadmap that can be seen as the video proceeds, (A, B, C) for listeners in order that they may keep track of how Johnson varies the different strains.
