Born Lehlogonolo Ronald Mataboge, A-Reece grew up in Pretoria, developing a passion for rap from a young age. His influences ranged from classic hip-hop legends to the new-school wave of artists pushing lyrical boundaries. He made his first mark in 2013 when he dropped Casper’s Picture, a diss track aimed at Cassper Nyovest. It caught people's attention—not just for the controversy, but because it showed he had real pen game. By 2015, at just 18 years old, he signed to Ambitiouz Entertainment, one of the biggest labels in SA hip-hop at the time. His breakout single Couldn’t (featuring Emtee) became a massive hit, introducing him as a new force in the industry. The success of the track led to his debut album Paradise in 2016, an album that positioned him as a future superstar. TWC eventually fell apart in 2019, but A-Reece remained unshaken. He doubled down on his independence, releasing albums like: From Me to You & Only You (2017) Reece Effect (2019) Today’s Tragedy, Tomorrow’s Memory (2021) While he rarely does interviews or interacts with the industry, his fans—known as Slimes—have kept his career alive through unwavering support. His music consistently charts, and every release is treated like an event, proving that he has cultivated a cult-like following that doesn’t need radio play or industry backing.
