It was an early start for me on 23rd September as i got up to catch a first train at 06:21 from Codsall to start my 2 hour plus journey to Hereford. Arrived at Birmingham New Street in time to catch my second train and arrived at Hereford earlier than planned at 08:17. But i'm not only at Hereford for the Fire Station Open Day but i also delivered some items to help a friend of mine for his Raffle in the aid of The Fire Fighters Charity. I've met some new faces as well, one of them is another HWFRS volunteer, who came aboard on the same train as i was in heading for Hereford. However, i've seen him at Worcester Fire Station but never properly Acquainted until Hereford's Open day. My friend even kindly gave me some other gifts, like a tote bag, foamed fire engine, some puzzles and some leaflets It was early when me and one of the volunteers arrived at the fire station. But it was alright, i took some photos of the station and some of their appliances. One of them, is their Scania P320, who came out and revered back and stopped at the entrance of their yard, ready for the squirting activity. I didn't get a chance to record the appliance moved out or backed into it's position. Their second appliance, a MAN Rescue Pump was one of the three fire engines that are used for the rides, the other two are Scania 94D and my favourite, Dennis Sabre. As the station opened i was one of the first to be on those rides and i finally ride on the Sabre in the Commander's/Manager's seat. the firefighters even allowed me to record the ride. After that, i had a good look round, video panning round the station and the yard, taking photos of the vehicles and video recording some of their demos, four B.L.E.V.E.s and Chip Pans. Their A.L.P. is still on loan to Worcester as theirs's is still broken down. Another vehicle of Hereford is the Sprinter Water Rescue Unit with their Inflatable Boats. The blood bikes and the police were there and so is the ice cream van and the Rapid Relief Team as they provide burgers, hot dogs and drinks. Good, friendly and funny bunch. One of them even took a photo of me and with the other three RRT members together. I also took some photos of the police prison transport van, even one of the officers had volunteered to be in one of the photos. At first i'm not sure if i'm allowed to post photos of them in public like facebook and YouTube. So i've talked to them about it and they said it's alright, so that's very nice of them and said my thanks to them. It's been a very busy day for Hereford and i think the Fire Engine Rides is the biggest thing they've had. Every fire station open day i visit is brilliant and Hereford Fire Station, is really is no different. Thanks to my friend for the gifts and along with the other firefighters who arranges one of the rides for me and thanks to the firefighters again for an amazing day, and i hope you'll have loads of money for the good cause, The Fire Fighters Charity.
