Red Lion Square — once the heart of Stamford’s traffic and trade. 🏛️🚗 Long before the A1 bypassed the town, the Great North Road ran straight through Red Lion Square. Stagecoaches, carts, early motorcars and heavy lorries all passed through this historic space, making it one of the busiest spots in Stamford. When the bypass finally redirected through-traffic in the 20th century, the square changed forever — shifting from a transport artery back to a civic and social space.
