When seas of more than 30 feet are due to wrap into the South African coast, it’s a bubbling pot of emotions. Competitors at the Ballito Pro were weighing their options right up until the last minute before hopping a flight down into Jeffrey’s Bay. On Monday July 8, the wind topped out above the 50-mile-per-hour mark, coupled with the swell, it sent this wonderful pointbreak into overdrive, for what those on the ground are saying the “first true winter swell”.
