With help from family and the use of a neighbor’s telehandler, we start what will become a major phase of the barn renovation. We remove the old roof tiles and quickly realize that reusing or selling them is not a realistic option due to their condition. As the rain inevitably shows up, it gives us the perfect chance to see how the driveway, French drains, and water management systems are already improving the site in wet conditions. Along the way, we also talk through how we imagine using the barn in the future, with living spaces upstairs and a workshop on the ground floor, once the structure is fully repaired and secure.
