Treatment of upper limb lymphedema with a microsurgical autologous (from the same person) vascularized lymphatic tissue transfer and insertion of Biobridge collagen scaffolds. Before the surgery, a SPECT/CT lymphoscintigraphy is performed, in order to avoid donor site lymphedema and identify the most functional lymphatic tissue and lymph nodes to transfer. The implanted Biobridge collagen scaffolds assist in the formation of new lymphatic vessels (Lymphagiogenesis). When lymph flows into the scaffolds, the lymphatic cells are attached to collagen and create new lymphatic vessels. Into the new lymphatic vessels the lymph flows and bridges the damaged lymphedematous areas. Treatment and results can be seen in a few months or in some advanced lymphedema patients may take more time.
