This webinar was recorded on Wednesday 15 October 2025 in partnership with UKHSA. Learning objectives: Through this webinar, we will consider how to utilise different prescribing strategies for respiratory tract infections in children and young people: 1. Explore the drivers for primary care consultations and antibiotic prescribing 2. Discuss the impacts of antibiotic prescribing 3. Identify tools and resources that can be used to support consultations Who is it for? Medical practitioners in the primary care setting including but not limited to: 1. General practitioners 2. Nurse prescribers 3. Practice and community pharmacists Background information: The speaker for this presentation is Dr Conor Jamieson, Regional Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead at NHS England (Midlands). Primary care antibiotic prescribing in children aged 0-9 years has increased in recent years compared to the pre-COVID-19 pandemic, with 5.3 million prescriptions for children aged 0 – 14 years in 2022 (1). Much of this prescribing will be driven by consultations for respiratory tract infections and the aim of this webinar is to support clinicians to manage consultations for RTIs in children and young people and consider appropriate strategies for clinical management. This is the first of two webinars on paediatric prescribing in primary care, with the second session focusing on applying guidance to scenarios in general practice.
