I feed my green Texas cichlids the hikari color enhancing food designed for Flowerhorns and parrot fish. I highly advise you try it. Here is a link: Hikari Color Food: https://amzn.to/2MKUqC6 More Texas Cichlid Talk / Random Tank Talk: Question, why are blood parrot cichlids not ok with smaller fish, they can't hardly open their mouths to eat. Someone posted below about if a Betta can be in the same tank with them, only issue I see is that the tank size for blood parrots would be to deep for a Betta. As for eating or hurting a Betta I doubt that, if anything the Betta will nip at the Blood Parrot instead. They would be relentless and pick at the betta destroying his fins and severely effecting his quality of life until they got big enough to swollow it. My Parrots are big and can't even open their mouths to eat they kind of suck their food in, honestly I think a Betta would be the bully. I wouldn't do it and bettas aren't normally bullies unless they're with other bettas they thrive in small community tanks with gentle fish I mean they can obviously nip and pick but there's no way a betta is going to out swim a parrot in order to bully it. Parrot cichlids don’t really suck fins and stuff in... they body slam and head butt. We had one that was ok with smaller and finicky fish. They are generally mean, but there are some that are pretty good. My Lola is good with my small fish (compared to her) even the littlest that is an electric yellow. Actually she kind of protect him from the others. It's actually fun to see how if some of the other fish try to mess with "güero" like we call our electric yellow, she goes after the bully. Mine is fine with smaller fish. I don't have a Betta though in that tank. Mines not agressive like some. Only bullys a little occasionally, mostly keeps to himself. You are not serious right now are you?! Blood parrots are classified under aggressive fish. They should never be with fish smaller than them, and pairing them with a Betta is just a disaster waiting to happen. Betta fish can only go alone with a specific amount of tropical non aggressive fish. You need to (not trying to be rude) seriously educate yourself before putting different kinds of fish together Sounds like what they’re doing. They don’t even have the Betta, they saw someone else ask the question and wanted to know the answer. I don’t see where you thought she put them together already? This has nothing to do with green Texas cichlids. I never bought any, I rescued 3 big adult parrots from a woman that had them with goldfish, no heater in the tank at all. They are not with a Betta at all it was just a question. Mine are with very bully angelfish and I am going to move the parrots eventually when my 110g is complete and cycled. They have a problem eating and that's why I questioned about them being with Betta's. yeah angel fish can be big bully’s, having more tanks is fun anyway! You can set up another one. Parrots pair well with cichlids the same size and mine get along with my Oscars also. As well as Jack Dempsey. Small fish will always become feeder fish. I have a 30 gallon peaceful tropical tank and my boyfriend has a 55 gallon aggressive fish tank, between the two we’ve unfortunately had to learn which pairs go together the hard way but we all need to learn sometime. My parrot cant be with anything. He used to be tankmates with a tinfoil barb and then one day he beat up the barb so badly i had to move him into his own tank. I've dont even have an algae eater or snails with him. I put decorative shells in the tank and he even attacked them at first. One day while cleaning his tank he even starting biting me, drew blood and everything. My parrot was small... Put half a dozen sword tails in with him, thinking they'd have babies for the parrot to snack on. Within 2 weeks he'd eaten all the sword tails - got to see the biggest male as he was devoured... Their mouths might look small, but they open wide.
