USA: ILLINOIS: WORLD CHURCH OF THE CREATOR LEADER INTERVIEW

(16 Jul 1999) English/Nat Benjamin Smith was a member of the World Church of the Creator. Ten days ago, Smith went on a shooting rampage throughout the heartland of America. He killed a black man in Chicago, a Korean in Bloomington, Indiana, wounded six Jews in suburban Chicago, and is implicated in at least three other shooting incidents before he turned a gun on himself an committed suicide. On Thursday, APTN talked with the current leader of the World Church of the Creator, Mathew Hale, at his home in Peoria, Illinois, about racism, and Benjamin Smith. Peoria, Illinois is in the centre of the centre of America's heartland. Surrounded by farmland, it is in the middle of the so-called corn belt, on the banks of the Illinois River, about 70 miles from Chicago. It is also the current headquarters for the World Church of the Creator. This unassuming house is the law office of Mathew Hale. The World Church of the Creator is a white supremacist organisation. They believe America was founded by white people, for white people. Mathew Hale preaches this message to his followers and anyone else who will listen. Hale, as leader of the World Church of the Creator, knew Benjamin Smith. Although Smith officially resigned from the organisation in April, he had been a member for several years. In a wide ranging interview, Hale talked about his reasons for believing in the superiority of the white race and lost no time discussing his personal reasons for his hatred of race mixing. SOUNDBITE: (English) "I hesitate to say the first time I saw a black kissing a white girl I felt sick, I felt nauseous. It was instinctively wrong to me. I think it is instinctively wrong to most people. Right now though most people are having their instincts dulled by propaganda. They are being told its OK to mix, the only difference is the colour of skin, and things of this nature." SUPER CAPTION: Mathew Hale/World Church of the Creator Hale believes that all races hate and that no amount of political correctness or legislation will stop people from hating one another or other things. SOUNDBITE: (English) "We have the right to hate. The First Amendment gives us the right to hate. Nobody's going to make us love by hating us or by pointing fingers at us. Hate is a very subjective word. People hate rainy days, the neighbour next door, all kinds of things. Now, if we're going to outlaw or punish hate then everybody's going to be in jail, because everybody does and this past nine, ten days I've seen more hate directed at me and my church than anything I've ever uttered in my entire life." SUPER CAPTION: Mathew Hale/World Church of the Creator The leader of the World Church of the Creator also believes that the so-called "n" word should not be offensive to anyone. He suggested that using other words is simply a cover-up for the way many white people actually feel. SOUNDBITE: (English) "It doesn't make any sense for a white person to be offended by the word nigger. It doesn't make any sense at all. Concerning that word, which I'm sure is the main word you were thinking of. I'm sure many blacks use that word. I've heard it many times myself where they call each other niggers so I think we need to end this taboo word business. Give me a break." SUPER CAPTION: Mathew Hale/World Church of the Creator Hale suggested that the white race is being depleted both morally and physically by interracial marriage. He blames this on a Jewish tactic designed to weaken the white race.
