BECOME STRONGER === DESCRIPTION === Of all of the original tracks from the 'SWORD' Route, NORTHERNLIGHT really stood out to me when I first heard it while listening to the soundtrack. Although the melody is shared with the 'Flashback' tracks heard throughout Chapter 3 and 4 (and in the Weird Route in Chapter 2), combined with the name and strange, unsettling aura the game has, listening to this version actually made me feel strangely emotional. Because I didn't know where the track played in the game, and hadn't peiced together that 'NOTHERNLIGHT' was referring to the isles of northernlight, I was left wondering what the track exactly was. Of course, later I found out where it plays and realised that it likely intended to represent the isles of NORTHENLIGHT in the game. ...But, something about this track sticks out to me. As with all versions of this melody, it seems to be hinting at something that happened that we don't fully know about yet. And I think the most important thing this track existing in this form implies to me... is that the 'Flashback' tracks are based on this track. This track plays in a game that is heavily implied to be some version of Dragon Blazers. It's implied much of the main cast played Dragon Blazers in some form growing up. This track diegetically existing in the game as part of it's soundtrack, something the characters listened to, then being used as the basis for a strange 'Flashback' track in Deltarune's soundtrack that we listen to... That sets the precedent that any number of tracks from Deltarune's soundtrack could technically have originated from Dragon Blazers, and makes the existence of the 'flashback' tracks very very interesting. If you look at it this way, it's technically an example of a peice of media 'transcending' it's own world and entering another - in this case, a track originating in a game (Dragon Blazers) that the characters in the game we are playing (Deltarune) played, and ending up as a track that we hear playing in the soundtrack for the game we are playing. Even outside of all that though, I think this is is all likely going to culminate in playing a 'full' version of 'Flashback' when we find out what actually happened with December, but this track existing makes me think it will have something - possibly quite a lot - to do with Dragon Blazers. ...What? Describe the process of making the cover? Oh, right. I was very inspired while making this, so I'm pretty happy with it. Because the original track is so short, and uses only 8-bit instruments, there was a lot of room to work with. I ended up trying to convey the same kind of feeling the original 8-bit tracks have in the first half, before slowly making the track 'real' and covering the 'Flashback' version of it in the second half. The idea of the track starting out as a 'harmless, fictional peice of media' before turning into something real is very interesting to me so that was the main concept I was trying to convey. I also really wanted to convey the unsettling, almost 'corrupted' feeling the other 'SWORD' Route tracks have. I think I managed to achieve that in a way I am pretty happy with. The track becoming slowed down before 'becoming real' was inspired both by that desire, and by the slowed down version of the track that can be heard when reaching the place where you find the Shelter Key. As for the video, I mostly focused on creating a still image background this time because the original track only plays at length in one room, so I decided to use an image of that room as a base and edit together the rest. Even though it's pretty simple, I think I managed to convey the kind of feeling I was giong for with it, so I'm happpy with it. Overall, I really like how this cover turned out, and it was a lot of fun to make. So with all that said, I hope you like it! === CREDITS === Software Used: FL Studio 21 Video made with FL Studio ZGameEditor Visualizer plugin Video edited with DaVinci Resolve Effect author credits: SplinePeaks - David Hoskins Adapted from https://www.shadertoy.com/view/MsXGDj HUD 3D - Rado1 TextTrueType - Ville Youlean Drop Shadow - Youlean Linear - StevenM,Dubswitcher,Youlean Original background image taken from the Deltarune Wiki, it can be found here: https://deltarune.wiki/w/NORTHERNLIGHT DELTARUNE's soundtrack was composed by Toby Fox, all respective rights go to him and Materia Music Publishing.
