Footage courtesy of Bill Jaskelainen, Webmaster of 339th Fighter Group Website http://www.339thfg.com/ On March 30th, 1945, some 30 ME262s of JG7 attacked aircraft of the 3rd Air Division, 8th Air Force, during a raid on U-boat and Oil facilities located in Hamburg. While attacking US bombers, Leutnant Karl Schnorrer's ME262 was hit by defensive fire from the US bombers, and he was forced to retreat. Fighters from the 339th Fighter Group, who were escorting the bombers, caught up to Schnorrer's damaged ME262. Captain Robert Sargent chased Leutnant Karl Schnorrer's ME262 to ground level, crippling the jet and forcing Leutnant Schnorrer to bail out. Schnorrer successfully exited the stricken ME262, however his leg struck the tail of the jet, mangling it so badly it had to be amputated. Lieutenant L. Kunz, another 339th fighter group pilot, caught the crash of Leutnant Schnorrer's ME262 in his gun camera footage. Also visible is Schnorrer's parachute opening in the bottom left of the screen.
