The Tangaroa Blue team worked with Wuthathi Custodians, Elders and members of the Wuthathi Aboriginal Corporation for a week-long clean-up at a site, that due to no road/boat access, had never been cleaned before! ➡️10.8 tonnes removed from just 2.8km beach on Wuthathi Ngaachi (Country) and Karakara (Sea Country) ➡️ 1.3 tonnes of net and rope, 345 fishing buoys, 6 ghost nets removed ➡️Over 300,000 items removed!! ➡️First helicopter clean-up event for our biggest clean-up haul ever!! A massive effort from the team, who were supported by Heartland Helicopters to transport the team and sling the bulka bags of rubbish off the beach back to the Wuthathi base. Thank you to the following organisations for supporting this event: Wuthathi Aboriginal Corporation, Tangaroa Blue Foundation, Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, Reef Trust, Cape York Natural Resource Management, Ocean Conservancy, BASF, trinamiX, Australian Border Force, Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, Weipa Camping Ground and Styledia.
