The St. Mary's River in Nova Scotia was once a world class salmon fishing destination, but a combination of forces nearly wiped out the salmon. The river is also an important habitat for endangered turtles. The St. Mary's River Association has done tremendous work to restore the river's ecosystem but huge threats remain, chief among them ongoing massive clearcutting and a proposed open pit gold mine.
