In this video, Philly and I will demonstrate and talk about the different aids and the biomechanical support your horse will need in order to perform the shoulder-in, haunches-in and half-pass in the trot. For many riders, the lateral movements in Dressage remain a bit of a mystery, especially when it comes to the specifics of the correct aids needed for these wonderful, classical master exercises. The reason they are often called ‘master exercises’ is that, throughout the centuries, many renowned Dressage riders/masters have found them hugely beneficial in the way they gymnasticize and strengthen their horses, preparing them for other movements and ensuring their health and well-being into the later years of their lives. In this video, I will go over the following questions: 1. What are the aids for shoulder-in, haunches-in and half-pass? 2. What do you do with your head in the shoulder-in? 3. How is haunches-in related to the half-pass? If you are new to the lateral work, I’d like to encourage you to learn and practice all of the lateral movements — leg yield, shoulder-in, haunches-in (travers/renvers) and half-pass — in the walk before progressing with them in the trot.
