What happens when a wrecked $6 million hypercar ends up in the hands of a YouTuber determined to rebuild it? That’s exactly what happened when a crashed Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport — one of only 60 ever made — was written off and sent to auction. Normally, a destroyed Bugatti is the end of the story. But when the car was purchased and handed to Matt Armstrong, the story took a completely different turn. Bugatti quickly made their position clear. Because the car had been declared a total loss, the company locked the VIN and refused to supply official parts through any Bugatti dealership. In other words, the car was effectively blacklisted. But instead of sending the Chiron back to the factory in France, the owner decided to try something no one had really attempted before — rebuilding the hypercar independently. That decision triggered one of the biggest debates the car world has seen in years. On one side, supporters believe owners should have the right to repair their cars however they choose. On the other, Bugatti argues that a 1,500-horsepower hypercar requires factory-level engineering and safety standards. Even Mate Rimac, CEO of Bugatti Rimac, stepped in publicly to address the controversy and explain the company’s position. Now the entire automotive community is watching. Can a YouTuber really rebuild one of the world’s most complex hypercars without factory support… or will this become a warning about why some machines should only be repaired by the people who built them?
