Black midwives built the foundation of birth justice in Miami — and today, Southern Birth Justice Network is leading the movement to build South Florida’s first nonprofit, Black-led Birth & Wellness Center. Birth justice began in Miami through the leadership of Black midwives, birthworkers, families, and community organizers. Now, SBJN is creating a permanent home for culturally grounded, midwife-led care rooted in dignity, access, and community. This film honors legacy.
