Here I gain access to the motor and gearbox (I'm not sure the inspection hatch is of much use) in order to fix a gearbox grind noise. Too much grinding going on lol. Turns out in these two models that they both had a tiny brass chip of metal stuck in the white plastic gear. Perhaps next time I might try and remove the prop saver and go in from the front to try and remove the debris? With the Spitfire fix I used GT85 oil which contains PTFE. I've heard this is a better oil for plastic parts but I use sparingly here. I didn't put any on the Mustang. This video also shows how to get to the motor but you'd also need to unsolder the wires from the reverse of the ESC board and that means removing the wing to get to that. All possible. I managed to repair these 2 planes using their original parts. In the thumbnail I point to the offending metal part with a cocktail stick which looks huge, showing how tiny this part is. Yet it make it run rough. I've had this a few times. I think the metal gear chips and usually parts fly away but sometimes they get caught in the plastic gear and wedged in. Music by Nigel Stanford. Thanks for Pooley929's video showing how to get to the motor and gearbox too. Be careful with knives. Internet search 'Calvertfilm'.
