If you talk to a Finn and ask them what their fellow countrymen are like, most will say that Finns are stereotypically quiet and reserved people who prefer to listen, rather than do small talk. In response to those who criticise the crowd for being verbally abusive to visiting teams and referees, I'd like to add the following thoughts: what is, and what isn't verbally abusive varies from individual to individual. Abuse is a subjective concept. For me, what's far more dangerous is when the state decides what people can and can't say. History shows that this is a very dangerous situation; typically it ends in camps and genocide. A few words that somebody might find offensive isn't nice, but it is a price that's well worth paying to avoid totalitarianism. I'm 59 and I was taught that sticks and stones might break your bones, but names will never hurt you. Good advice. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Maybe become a librarian, or something. This is why sport is character building - maybe this explains why many companies hire people who have played team games at a decent level. Life is pressured.
