Fabio Giglio, MD, PhD, San Raffaele Scientific Institute, Milan, Italy, discusses the role of allogeneic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT) in the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and highlights strategies being explored to improve outcomes following alloSCT. Dr Giglio speaks about factors to consider when selecting patients for alloSCT, carefully selecting conditioning regimens and graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) prophylaxis, and emerging agents being investigated for maintenance treatment.
