Cavite city was the capital of Cavite Province from its establishment in 1614 until the title was transferred to the newly created, more accessible city of Trece Martires in 1954. But on June 11, 1977 President Ferdinand Marcos transferred it to Imus as the provincial capital of Cavite. Despite the capital's relocation, Trece Martirez still hosts the majority of the offices of the provincial government and some national-level agencies. Nowadays, Trece Martires City is recognized by many in Cavite as a de facto provincial center and a historically significant location due to its central geographic position and its role as the administrative seat of the provincial government
