Today we will go tour our vegetable garden. We have consistently been experiencing extended temperatures above 95 degrees for more than two weeks at a time. Night-time temperatures have been in the low to mid-80’s. This means that summer, for all practical purposes, is here!! How does a spring garden respond to summer temperatures? I'll show you! My spring garden is experiencing stress from the high heat which compromises plants. Tomatoes do not reliably set fruit at these temperatures. When a plant is stressed, it becomes susceptible to disease and pests. We have both. In this video I will begin to transition to my summer garden. Summer gardens in my area are not attractive, they're not particularly productive, but it's what we have to deal with. I will show you my single seed challenge as well, it's not looking pretty. I'll show you what the heat has done to my dwarf and micro-dwarf tomatoes. I'll show you what I'm planting to grow through the summer as well. And I'll talk about the realities of gardening in three seasons in zone 9A. Come along for a tour with me. #SingleSeedchallenge 2020 ___ Black Gumbo shares our suburban, backyard, sustainable gardening efforts. We work a small-scale, typical Zone 9a garden and raised beds, the kind of gardening accessible to all. We tend to take the slice of life approach and hope you will enjoy our family, our dog, our cooking, our adventures, and occasionally some commentary and advice. We love family, joy and friendship, and we invite you to enjoy these things with us!
