Hello, my name is Nicholas Steel and I'm attempting to become the youngest person ever to complete 16 100-mile foot races within a single calendar year! ---------- Edit: A winner has been selected by the wheel of names! ---------- This race was my tenth race for the 2025 ultra season! The 2025 Maah Daah Hey 100 miler--116 miles in the North Dakota Badlands. It was a journey in and of itself. From 100°F+ days (with almost no shade) to 55°F nights, this race demands nothing but sheer will to finish. Normally, the trail has dry riverbeds by mid-summer—but not this year. They were incredibly muddy, costing racers a ton of time to get through. (Especially the ones who didn’t want to get their shoes wet and muddy... a.k.a. me.) The biggest challenge was the heat. It took out a lot of people on the first day—if not the second. Having solid cooling strategies was a must to avoid heat exhaustion, and being able to carry up to a gallon of water was highly recommended—especially on those long 10+ mile stretches without an aid-station. The race starts at 12 noon, sending runners straight into the high desert—right before the hottest part of the day. It's an out-and-back course, and every mile has to be earned. This race was ran in a back-to-back-to-back weekend of 100’s, as follows: 7/18 - Pinetum Mind Games - 24 Hours 7/25 - Maah Daah Hey Trail 116 8/02 - Badger Trail 100 Each one of these are a challenge in themselves. From 24 hours on a 0.411 mile loop -- to 116 miles in a desert -- to an out-back-out speed course, it is unheard of for a person to do back-to-back-to-back 100's within a year.. let alone, 13 other ones! (and to be 23 years old) So this is getting real wild--and these three weeks are and will be the toughest weeks of my life.
