This game is just... wow. None of the music, I mean NONE, of them are bad. The worst soundtrack in the game is probably a 7/10 for me. I wasn't going to play SP as my fourth fangame but Basty praised it so much so I gave it a try. I ended up loving it a lot. But now let's get into the game's core mechanics. System: Enemies have red, green or blue aura and drop droplets of the same color when killed (red and green turn into blue after a while, which also makes enemies easier to die). Collect 10 droplets of the same color to start a border. This runs out after a while or you can cancel it manually by releasing the shot button. Collect 10 more droplets of any color to refresh the border timer. When the border ends you collect all items on screen and you get a score bonus plus a resource bonus depending on the colors and how many droplets were in your border (red for life pieces, green for bomb pieces and blue for score items). For bosses they cycle between a red, green and blue aura, beat spellcards when they are at a certain color to the resources corresponding to the aura alongside 5 droplets of the same color. Shots: Reimu is your basic homing shot. However, in this game Reimu's homing actually does damage?? With a small hitbox and having a great stage control and overall great boss performance, it's no surprise Reimu is the first shot people would go to. I played Reimu mainly for the emote (see thumbnail) but I'd say I had an enjoyable time using her. Marisa is her usual shot but only her missiles. She's pretty bad let's say. The missiles do deal some good damage, but range is the more important aspect here. And despite having nice damage, Marisa's dps is pretty bad compared to Shou and Hecatia's dps too. Hence she's also the least used shot commonly. But that's not even the hardest part about Marisa, which I will get into later. Shou is Marisa if she was good. Shou not only got the piercing lasers Marisa used to have, but also have a wider range and can even shoot behind her, giving her really nice stage control. Shou is my secondary character in this game. I think (haven't researched a lot about it) if you place the option directly on the boss you can deal the laser damage both upwards and downwards which can give a dps boost? Not sure about it tho. Hecatia is the jack of all trades in the game, coming in with three different shot choices that can be changed with the C key. She's a lot like SA MarisaB, a shot I play a lot, so you can expect me to go with Hecatia as my main. Speaking of, I'm not joking when I say Hecatia has every single perk in this game. Good range with the yellow shot, strong dps with the blue shot and excellent shotgun damage with the red shot. The only thing pulling Hecatia down is not knowing when to use a specific shot. She's so good I plan to go for LNB as Hecatia straight too. Stages and Characters: Stage 1 is pretty chill. The bullets kinda blend in with the background which can snipe, but I love the stage theme. Azure's design is really cool and memorable as a stage 1 boss. A huge fan of her theme too. Stage 2 is still easy. Jiriri isn't an issue but the bullet visibility pretty bad here, especially on Yamomo's fight, who isn't that hard, but her opener can be a bit scary, but not a threat. Also her theme is so good wtf Stage 3 is fine. Iruha can be scary and some sections aren't nice but it's pretty fine. Saga on the other hand might be the trickiest boss in the game so she can snipe a few deaths off you. Stage 4 is unique. For starters, we have these little annoying sheep known as Hammon which are invincible. If they are damaged, they release a lot of bullets which clogs the screen. Iruha is much harder here compared to stage 3, especially the second midspell. The boss, Umehime, is an instant favorite the moment I see her. I am in love with her design and her theme is great. However, all her spellcards are character dependent. Reimu heavily sucks on stage 4 because of the homing which can hit the sheep and Umehime's patterns aren't nice. Shou has the easiest time on Umehime, followed by Hecatia and the worst being Marisa. Hecatia could have the best time on Umehime due to her shotgunning though. Stage 5 on the surface is menacing, but it's pretty fine after some learning. Padma has to take the spotlight here (pun not intended). Her character design and personality is top tier, and her fight? It's the most interesting fight I ever faced imo. Padma's fight was actually my first exposure to SP too! Still the fight is creepy af especially how the final came into play. Love her and her theme, favorite character in the game. (Umehime and Hikariko still higher) Stage 6 is a vibe. Love both stage and boss themes, but that's it. Ummu isn't that hard, but the atmosphere is excellently done to showcase the final boss. Her final and TLB might be threatening, but not super hard. (I ran out of space here so let's continue the rest of it in the comments)
