Wongani Chawinga is a promising Malawian para-athlete competing in track events within the T13 classification for visually impaired athletes. In 2025, Wongani emerged as a strong contender on the regional stage, winning a bronze medal in the 400m T13 at the One Nico Top 12 Cup and later securing a silver medal at the AUSC Region 5 Youth Games in Namibia, contributing to Team Malawi’s growing presence in para-athletics. This short film follows Wongani’s journey as a young para-athlete representing Malawi, capturing his training, mindset, and preparation as he competes alongside peers from across Southern Africa. Having successfully passed international classification tests, Wongani continues to develop as an elite athlete with aspirations to represent Malawi at higher levels of international competition. Produced by the University of Malawi Film for Development team, this film forms part of the AT2030 Para Sport Against Stigma project, and is presented by the Malawi Paralympic Committee in support of its mission to grow para sport and empower athletes to reach their full potential.
