Watch this extraordinary union between legendary drummer Terri Lynne Carrington, vocal supergroup säje (rhymes with "beige"), and award-winning pianist and USC Thornton professor Patrice Rushen. This program includes performances of original compositions, contemporary covers, and jazz standard and conversation about challenging barriers in the jazz industry and advocating for change in society. Throughout the concert, the women discuss their experiences and efforts as women and BIPOC artists in jazz with USC professor Sean Holt. Bassist Anna Butterss and students from the USC Thornton School of Music also perform. This event was presented on December 2, 2021 by USC Visions and Voices: The Arts and Humanities Initiative; organized by Sara Gazarek (Music); and co-sponsored by KCRW.
