Temperature & Humidity Control in HVAC Systems🌡️💧

HVAC systems are designed to create comfortable living conditions inside a given space. In our previous video, we explored the key components of an HVAC system and how they work together to ensure efficient heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. If you haven’t watched it yet, check the link in the description for more details. In this video, we’re diving into the two main physical properties that HVAC systems need to control: Temperature and Humidity. We’ll cover: 🔹 What temperature and humidity mean 🔹 Why maintaining them is so important 🔹 How HVAC systems maintain both factors Excited to learn more? Let’s get started! 🔥 What is Temperature? We often use the term temperature in daily life, but what does it actually mean? Temperature measures the hotness or coldness of a body or system. It is determined by the kinetic energy (movement) of molecules in the air. During hot environments, the temperature inside the space rises, causing discomfort, dryness, and sweating. Similarly, in cold environments, the temperature drops, causing chilliness and potential respiratory issues. Thus, temperature should be balanced—not too high and not too low—to maintain comfort. 🛠️ How HVAC Systems Maintain Temperature? The Air Handling Unit (AHU) is the heart of the HVAC system, and its cooling and heating coils control the temperature. Cooling Coils are connected to chilled water (from chillers). When the room is hot, chilled water flows through the cooling coils, reducing the temperature of the space. Heating Coils are connected to hot water (from boilers). When the room is cold, hot water flows through the heating coils, raising the temperature. The system maintains the desired temperature by adjusting the flow of chilled or hot water to the coils. For locations with moderate winters, AHUs may replace heating coils with small heating elements. In such cases, chillers control temperature by adjusting the thermal expansion valves. 💧 What is Humidity? Humidity is the amount of moisture in the air, often expressed as Relative Humidity (RH) in percentages. Maintaining proper humidity (usually 50% to 60%) is as important as controlling the temperature for a healthy and comfortable environment. 🔎 How HVAC Systems Control Humidity? Dehumidification: Low humidity makes the air feel dry, even in a cold environment, leading to dehydration. This can be resolved by humidification, where an AHU humidifier sprays a mist of water vapor to add moisture to the air. Humidification: Excessive humidity causes discomfort and condensation near cold surfaces, weakening furniture over time. This is fixed by dehumidification, where over-cooled air with high humidity passes through a re-heater, which removes moisture and produces dehumidified air. 🌟 Modern HVAC Control Systems In modern HVAC systems, thermostats are used to automatically control both temperature and humidity. These thermostats monitor the space and make real-time adjustments to meet the desired set points. 📌 Additional Learning: Don’t miss our previous videos on HVAC components and chiller systems! HVAC System :    • HVAC Systems Explained: Components, Functi...   Chillers :    • Chillers Explained: How Air-Cooled & Water...   🔑 Key Takeaways: Temperature control is achieved by adjusting the flow of chilled and hot water through the cooling and heating coils. Humidity control is managed by processes like humidification and dehumidification to maintain a comfortable air quality. Thermostats automate the process, ensuring that temperature and humidity are constantly monitored and controlled. 👍 Thanks for Watching!
