Through my Blackstar HT-5 Practice amp, I thought I'd show the fruits of today's labour... It took about an hour to change the parts in the TS-9 you see on the left including 14 different components... I miraculously only burnt myself once during the process too. In this video I am using a Fender 1952 Reissue Telecaster straight through both TS-9's directly into the clean side of the Blackstar HT-5. Apologies for the hair dryer in the background... I would have waited had I known someone was going to be using one in the house...! A simple couple of riffs, nothing fancy just to show the difference between the two pedals. Pedal on the right (Red LED) is stock. Pedal on the left (Green LED) is fettled. I use the same settings on both pedals throughout, however I imagine you could get closer to matching the sounds of each by compensating, though you wouldn't get the same amount of treble from the standard tubescreamer... that wasn't the purpose of this test. Instantly you can see that the MT Mod version has a lot more gain and a boatload more top end. It sparkles whereas the standard TS-9, as my dad put it, sounds flat. Total cost of the TS-9 on the left £70. Compare that to an Analogman or a Keeley and you're quids in! I am yet to test the Texas Instruments RC4558P chip in the pedal, comment if you'd like to see that pedal too... Sound from Canon 5D mkiii inbuilt camera.
