Yesterday I shot a target for accuracy and groups. Using Norma TAC 22 and the Lithgow it gave a 'decent' showing. Afterward I was reading an account of adjusting the action screw torque to 20 inch/pounds and a resulting increase in accuracy and a tightened group size. On checking my action screw settings I found them to be at 15 inch pounds. The author referenced indicated a testing yield of 20 inch/pounds as being the preferred setting. Not being in the mood for a half day trial of 10 or more settings, I thought 'cranking' to 20 and shooting a target would be a good way to spend an hour. I did just that. It was a nice day for shooting. The results, no difference in outcomes between the two settings. I'm fine with the Norma TAC 22 results. I've had very good results with premium ammunition so I know what the Lithgow is capable of. Norma TAC makes for a fine daily round for practice and entertainment. When a shot is perfect one can claim proficiency. When a shot is less than perfect one can assert the Norma performed well for its ability ; ). I've determined the biggest two shot 'spreads' happen when the rifle is less than optimally stable on the front rest ( a case of the dancing reticle ). So more than likely this ammunition is only partly responsible, a small part! Always a good day on the range!
