It is said that the name of the mountain, Odaesan, is derived from the fact that all five peaks surrounded in the shape of a lotus flower form a flat plateau. Woljeongsa Temple, Jeokmyeolbogung Palace, Sangwonsa Temple, and many other Buddhist ruins are scattered throughout the valley, making it famous as the best Buddhist holy place in Korea. Odaesan Mountain is a high mountain range belonging to the Taebaek Mountains(태백산맥). Its soil is rich in forest resources and it is a good mountain to enjoy the snowy scenery due to heavy snowfall in winter. In particular, there are no steep valleys, so you can enjoy winter hiking safely because there is no risk of avalanches even if there is a lot of snow in winter.
