Welcome! This project was actually years in the making. This blower sat for at least a couple of years before I decided to resurrect it with a new engine. I really liked the performance of this leaf blower as compared to another one I had bought to replace it which had a stronger 8HP engine but seemed to not move the leaves as well and had dual casters in the front which dug into the ground making moving it difficult. After a fruitless search to locate a replacement Briggs engine for a reasonable cost, I opted to go the repower route after a coworker told me he had good luck repowering a lawn mower with one of Predator's vertical shaft engines. This video outlines the process I took to repower the leaf blower, learning as I went and inventing some new colorful phrases. The final version of this video is actually using a second Predator engine. The first one suffered a broken PTO shaft which left the impeller rattling around in the blower housing. Inspection by one of my Mechanical Engineer coworkers led to his suspicion that it was a defective engine - most likely the factory worker cut the keyway either too fast or with insufficient cutting oil. This may have led to microcracks which weakened the shaft and ultimately led to failure due to the mass of the impeller and my whipping the leaf blower around while trying to get the lawn cleared quickly. I replaced the engine under warranty and will give them another chance. I hope you enjoy this video and find it both educational and entertaining. If you like it, give me a thumbs up. As you tighten the bolt, it will apply pressure to the end of the crankshaft and push the impeller off. It takes some strength (and some PB Blaster doesn't hurt!).
