Tehran Nights at Café Koochini is a 1-hour Persian jazz mix inspired by the legendary 1960s Tehran venue where young artists first found their voice. Blending nostalgic Persian melodies with warm café jazz textures, this instrumental session is designed for late-night listening, study, focused work, and quiet reflection; a cinematic soundtrack for long evenings and city memories. Café Couchini isn’t just a nostalgic name; it was a real cultural “pin” on the map of 1960s Tehran. Located on what used to be called Kakh Street, near the intersection of what was then Elizabeth Boulevard, it became known as more than a place for dinner and dancing. Founded by Vida Ghahremani, Couchini began as a hybrid space; part café, part art gallery, part restaurant; built to give young artists a public stage at a time when that kind of support could make or break a future. That early idea mattered. Couchini was one of the first places intentionally shaped as a meeting point for emerging talent; the kind of talent that might never have found an audience if it hadn’t been taken seriously. It’s in this venue that figures like Farhad Mehrad and Shahbal Shabpareh; along with the band The Black Cats; gained recognition through live performance. Farhad would later become one of Iran’s most distinctive voices, especially associated with songs that carried a quiet, restrained form of protest. According to accounts, he performed his famous song “Jomeh” (“Friday”) for the first time at Couchini; a piece composed by Esfandiar Monfaredzadeh that would go on to resonate far beyond its era. After the 1979 Revolution, Café Couchini was confiscated; and, like many places tied to the city’s cultural identity, it slowly faded from public memory.
