Skagit Valley Tulip Festival promises colorful display throughout April despite late start

The iconic Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, a significant tourism draw and economic boon for Mount Vernon, is experiencing a slight delay in its iconic blooms due to below-normal temperatures in recent months. The timing of the bloom is dependent on Mother Nature. On average, the tulips begin to blossom with color around April 4. If the weather is warm in February and March, the tulips bloom earlier. If it's cold, the tulips bloom later. "February came around and we had about three weeks of continuous freezing temperatures, so it slowed down the growth of the tulips," Brent Roozen, owner of Roozengaarde Tulip Farm, said.
