Someone requested an upload of The Writing of Tipperary by Alex Campbell some time ago; I was lucky enough to find the original, written by Bill Caddick. Here is the final track from his album Sunny Memories - An Album for the Storage of Photographic Scraps released in 1977, a revue of the Edwardian era. This piece tells the tale of how music hall entertainer Jack Judge wrote It’s a Long Way to Tipperary on a pub bet that he could write a song in a day. Caddick's piece is a meticulously researched account of this event interspersed with headline events between the death of Edward VII and the outbreak of war. For those of us unfamiliar with Bill Caddick, he was was one of the British folk scene’s best-loved characters. Master singer-songwriter and 12-string guitarist, Caddick was a member of the Albion Band and Home Service. His songs have been covered by many artists including June Tabor and Christy Moore.
