It's not the absolute best Jdrama but is definitely among the better lot that I've seen this year. Kiyotaka is the focal point of this edit and I built everything around him. It was hard to put all major characters and their stories in 3 minutes and I'm a bit sulking over that I couldn't put more of Shinji and Kiyotaka's family perspectives in this. I tried as best as I could. I wanted to lay more emphasis on Kiyo's professional goals and how one event after another changed him. I'm happy, I could at least pull that off. lol it took me an eternity to make it. Well! In a nutshell, this drama is about life. Life doesn't go as planned most of the times it throws challenges bringing people down and all they could do is to get up, dust themselves up and face it face-on. This drama is not so much about romance but I would say it's definitely about love. Love that the parents have for their kids, love that the friends have for one another, love that one human being have towards another human being and about admiration that past lovers have for each other. It tackled a lot of issues and because of which it also kind of lost the momentum around ep 3 but the writers redeemed themselves in the later half. And let me just say how considerate everyone was of everyone else except that one time when Shinji took out all this frustrations on Kiyo. Yeah! that was a shallow move and totally selfish but understandable. I lost count on how many times this drama broke my heart. Ok! Will still try to remember. 1. Justin questioning about his poverty and followed by Shimizu's answer. 2. Justin's demise at the hands of the selfish motives of screwed up adults in a screwed world. 3. Shimizu dealing with post traumatic stress and questioning his own purpose in life. 4. Toko's dad crying not because he'll die soon but because Toko will lose the only remaining family. 5. Hana-Chan being all apprehensive about the future of her own relationship upon Toko-Shimizu reunion (I was like dude if you break this girl's heart I swear I'll hunt you down). 6. Shinji treated like sh*t at work. I felt bad for him. Everybody kind of lived a hard life. Toko was a tragedy magnet. Shinzi and Yoo Ri sticking up with their halves first as friends and later as partners through the thick and thin was really heart warming. I'm truly glad that it was reciprocated when they had their vulnerable moments. I have never been a huge fan of Sakaguchi Kentaro. Now, I'm wondering like a fool, why? All it takes is one heck of a performance to change one's mind, I guess. Boy! I was absolutely blown away by the range of emotions he could portray.Thank you writers for giving the best possible and tasteful ending keeping the essence of the title intact. If Toko and Kiyotaka ended up together that'd have been completely absurd in this kind of a drama. Good! they did not ruin it with a forceful ending of getting them back together after all that happened. Not everyone ends up with their 'so-called the love of the life' in actual life. It's circumstantial and every little action and decision made them who they were now. Last scene was excellent how they bid farewell to the past moving towards the future perhaps still reflecting on their choices. Can't say for everyone but the message was well received by me. I loved this drama. Watch it if you like. Not for everyone. Thanks for reading if you made it through. Just realised that my next edit (Fortuna's eye) is also with Kasumi Arimura.
