Pump Harder! The Hand Ghan Story

In 1980, a group of adventurous rail enthusiasts departed Marree on a borrowed Kalamazoo bound for the Red Centre, a journey dubbed the Hand Ghan. Their aim was to celebrate the history of the narrow gauge Central Australia Railway, running through the desert from Marree to Alice Springs, and the legends surrounding the line. Over eight days, the Hand Ghan team would not only celebrate the line, but would become a part of that same legend. In classic Australian fashion, the Hand Ghan would be sponsored by a local brewery who would supply the team with all the beer they could ever want, drinking their way through the outback. This video explores the story of the Central Australia Railway, the Hand Ghan and the amusing incidents that occurred along the way.
