The Nivati Rocks (also known as Vengurla Rocks or Burnt Islands) are a stunning archipelago of about 20 sea stacks off the coast of Maharashtra, featuring two distinct generations of lighthouses. The Lighthouses Old Nivati Lighthouse: Dating back to the 19th-century British era, this stone structure was the original guardian of these treacherous waters. Historically, before modern lighting was installed, log fires were burned here to warn sailors, which is why the islands are often called "Burnt Islands". New Nivati Lighthouse: A more modern structure built around 1931 (and significantly upgraded in 2002/2008), it now operates using solar energy and rotating beacons. While it is a primary landmark, tourists are generally not allowed inside the new tower itself. Visiting Nivati Rocks:- Access: Reachable only by boat from Nivati Beach, Malvan, or Devbag. Cost: Boat safaris typically cost between ₹6,000 and ₹8,000 for a group of 6–8 people. Key Highlights: Golden Rocks: Unique rock formations near the shoreline that glisten in the sunlight. Mhatarichi Chul: A natural "chimney" cave where the sea spray surges dramatically through the rocks. Marine Life: The area is a popular PADI dive site known for crystal clear waters, dolphins, and diverse reef fish. Best Time: Early morning (6:30 AM – 9:00 AM) & Evening (4:00 PM – 6:00 PM)is recommended for the best light, calmest seas, and higher chances of spotting dolphins.
