Today is facial plastic surgeon and rhinoplasty expert Dr. Deepak Dugar. So today we are talking about the life cycle of plastic surgery. Plastic surgery from your birth to your death. Its crazy how many different procedures can be done and are being done on a regular basis. So, we kinda wanted to break it down based on age groups and talk to you about the most common procedures are starting from birth all the way to death. So, from the moment you're born what's the most common plastic surgery procedure thats performed? It's actually called a tongue tie procedure. Infants, when they are born after day one or two. If they are having trouble latching on to their mother's nipple during breast feeding, they actually have a little procedure where they cut underneath the tongue because sometimes the tongue has extra mucosa holding it down to the floor of the mouth. So that's called a tongue tie procedure where they snip the bottom of the tongue to get more flexibility with your tongue. That's usually the only type of procedure a baby will have cosmetically unless there is some type of deformity, in which cleft lips, cleft palates, those type of things can be addressed throughout birth to age 10. So generally, in the first 10-15 years of life, the only procedures are being done are for deformities or the number one cosmetic surgery being done for kids from age, maybe 7 years old to 15 are for the ears. Okay, its called an otoplasty. Otoplasty for the ears is the most common procedure cosmetically for kids aged 7 to 15. And usually it's kids, you know think Will Smith. Large ears that are protruding and you want to reset them posteriorly so they don't look as obtrusive and obstructive. Usually it's because of bullying and kids get made fun of in school and so its something that is a very minimal procedure thats done under local anesthesia sometimes, sometimes under general where you actually reshape the ear to curve backwards and that's called otoplasty. After the age about 15, 15 to 19 years old, the number one surgical procedure that kids are getting from that age, teenagers is rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty is the most common procedure from 15-19 of any surgical procedure done cosmetically done in the United States of America.
