This is "Great America: Rediscover America Through W-VHS" from the original high-definition W-VHS tape (VCT-0889). These tapes were included with the Japan-market-only Victor (JVC) HR-W1 W-VHS tape machines in 1993. W-VHS was the predecessor to the D-VHS system which saw a true worldwide (but still relatively limited) release. Unlike the digital D-VHS system, the W-VHS tape system stores true analog component HD video on a tape with a similar form-factor as VHS/S-VHS tapes. These players were the only way to record the earliest Japanese 1035i HD MUSE satellite transmissions. (For example, elsewhere on Youtube is footage from the original Japanese HD broadcast of the 1994 Winter Olympics recovered from W-VHS tapes.) This tape features high definition footage the Grand Canyon, New York, and various other locations in the USA. The New York portion includes the popular "New York in 1993" segment that was presented as a demo on D-VHS (and can be found all over Youtube). Unfortunately, while this content is a good example of the performance of the W-VHS format, all known commercial W-VHS tapes contain a variation of the footage contained in this demo tape. Therefore, there appears to be no pre-recorded movies or other forms of ready-made media available for W-VHS... xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Chapters (by song): 00:00 - Intro 00:41 - WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD 04:20 - OLD BLACK JOE 06:31 - GEORGIA ON MY MIND 09:34 - Waterfalls 10:32 - LIVING FOR THE CITY 12:50 - AUTUMN IN NEW YORK 16:15 - WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD (Reprise) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx This was played back using a Victor HR-W1 W-VHS deck which was mechanically & electrically restored. NOTE: I apologize that about 45 seconds of content was lost at the end of the tape. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx More of my vintage HDTV uploads can be found in this playlist: • World's Oldest High-Definition Footag... xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx If you want to follow me for updates or want to help me afford a lawyer to file a restraining order against my neighbor's fish, please click the link below: https://linktr.ee/OpWorkshop
