Filmed on 19.12.2020. Many thanks to one of my viewers of my channel, who let me come and have a look at all the four elevators in this residential building! BASIC INFORMATION Location: Kirjatyöntekijänkatu / Bokarbetaregatan 4B (Same residential building as on Kristianinkatu / Kristiansgatan 9), Kruununhaka / Kronohagen, Helsinki / Helsingfors, Finland Brand: KONE Type: Traction, HM1 Year installed: 1927 (Turning 95 years old in 2022) Floors served: 7 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) Serial: H 583 Capacity: 3 persons or 240 kg MORE INFORMATION This residential building, located in the Kruununhaka / Kronohagen redidential district, facing the Kirjatyöntekijänkatu / Bokarbetaregatan and Kristianinkatu / Kristiansgatan streets, was finished in 1927 and is among the last works by the Finnish architect, Selim A. Lindqvist, who among others designed the old elecrical power plant (nowadays the Hotel Lilla Roberts) in Kaartinkaupunki / Gardesstaden in 1909, the Lundqvist merchandise building (containing the Aleksi 13 store to be closed) during 1898-1900, the Merkurius merchandise building as well as the Hietalahti / Sandviken market hall. Even though Selim A. Lindqvist is one of the architects behind the renowned Finnish Art Nouveau (also nicknamed Jugend) style, this was constructed in the 1920s neo classisist style. A sauna and laundry facilities were built in the basement in 1972 (Architect: Sauli Kuntsi). This residential building is known to have had this districts' last public saunas. Outside of it on some walls, some old pictures in black and white depicting how it looked liked here before this building are found, taken by the first female photographer in Finland, Signe Brander (in 1907). From what can be seen, there were just wooden houses here before, and one bigger residential building was already existing then. On Kristianinkatu side, the oldest wooden house located between stone-made residential buildings, the Kruunumestarin talo (house, Kronmästarens hus) in dark yellow is found. Kruununhaka/Kronohagen is historically the oldest city district in the Finnish capital. Please enjoy all four 1927 elevators via the links below (also found in a separate playlist!): • Beautiful Old 1927 Gated KONE Traction Ele... (Staircase A) • Beautiful Old 1927 Gated KONE Traction Ele... (Staircase B) • Beautiful Old 1927 Gated KONE Traction Ele... (Staircase C) • Beautiful Old 1927 Gated KONE Traction Ele... (Staircase D) In the Kruununhaka/Kronohagen district in the center of Helsinki/Helsingfors, some other beautiful exampels of antique elevators include the 1928 original one on Oikokatu/Gengatan 5F, filmed on 21st of May 2020: • Beautiful Original Old 1928 Gated KONE Tr.... as well as the 1934 Gated KONE Elevators at Vironniemenkatu 5A, • Beautiful Old 1934 Gated KONE Traction Ele... (Filmed on the 22nd of August, 2019) and • Beautiful Old 1934 Gated KONE Traction Ele... (Filmed on The 19th of May, 2020), respectively. There are still lots of others old residential buildings from the 1920s and 30s also in Kruununhaka/Kronohagen, but probably, none of the others are as beautiful as these, as most of them got their elevators modernized in the 1960s, and then with generics in the 2000s or 2010s. Another OTIS from 1928 (original) at Meritullinkatu ( Sjötullsgatan 24 on staircase A has been filmed and can be found here (Also filmed on the 19th of December, 2020): • Beautiful Old 1927 OTIS Gated Traction Ele... . I have filmed the one in staircase B on 19.05.2020: • Beautiful Old 1928 OTIS Gated Traction Ele... In this district so far the oldest elevator that has been found is a 1909 elevator (modernized with KONE Evergreen fixtures in 1997 but still very beautiful, • Beautiful Old 1909 G. Herrm.
