Is your Subaru Forester’s A/C cold while driving but blows warm at idle? In this video I show you how I diagnosed and fixed the problem without replacing the compressor. 00:00 Intro + Symptoms 02:29 Tools 03:31 Thermocouple Setup 06:12 Sunload Sensor 06:45 Inducing Failure 07:35 Checking A/C Clutch 08:41 Probing Coil w/Multimeter 09:20 Measuring Air Gap 11:42 Compressor Serial Number 13:00 Start Repair (Remove Clutch Plate) 18:17 Remove Shim 19:56 Reinstall Clutch Plate 21:48 Function Check 23:38 Verify Clutch Gap (Post-Repair) 25:13 Final Thermocouple Reading 26:00 3-Day Follow Up Special Thanks to Mr Subaru and TDR Auto for providing some guides around this and inspiring me to make my own diagnosis and repair video for this issue! Here's their videos (check them out) • Subaru AC Not Working (Easy Fix) • Subaru Forester A/C Compressor Clutch Fail... Tools: Feeler Gauge https://www.harborfreight.com/feeler-... AC Clutch Holder Tool https://www.amazon.com/OEMTOOLS-26550... Symptoms: Air conditioner works fine in off-season A/C cuts out or goes warm in traffic or at idle Clutch face stops engaging once heat-soaked Cycling the A/C switch temporarily brings it back Diagnosis: Checked condenser fans (OK) Verified 12V at clutch feed during failure (ECU wasn’t cutting it off) Measured clutch air gap with feeler gauge: 0.75 mm (spec is 0.3–0.6 mm) Repair: Removed clutch plate Took out one shim to bring the air gap back into spec (~0.4 mm) Reinstalled and tested: A/C now works flawlessly at idle and in hot weather This simple adjustment saved me from replacing the compressor at 250,000 miles. If your 2014–2018 Subaru Forester (or similar Subaru with the Valeo DKV-10Z compressor) has the same issue, this might be your fix too. #Subaru #Forester #ACRepair
