Wide of sunset with several residential complexes visible in the background of the area where the protest was held STROYLINE: An alliance of around two dozen radical and right-wing parties on Sunday resolved to launch a movement to attack the government for its ties with America and India. The alliance, led by the groups Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), convened the public conference opposite the mausoleum of the Quide Azam, the founding father of Pakistan. Thousands of activists and supporters turned up for the Difa-e-Pakistan (Defence of Pakistan) Conference, waving flags of their respective parties and chanting slogans of waging 'jihad' (holy war). The party chiefs were unequivocal in their condemnation of the United States and NATO, lashing out at the Pakistan government for toeing the American line and calling for a defence of the geographic and ideological boundaries of Pakistan. "We want to state that we won't allow the resumption of NATO supplies and this coalition of religious parties, which has come together by the grace of God, will play a key role in ensuring its (NATO supplies) are stopped," said Hafiz Saeed, the firebrand chief of the Jamaatud Dawaa, an organisation widely believed to be a front for the militant Lashkar-e-Taiba group. Saeed also urged the government to cut off the NATO supplies into Afghanistan, which, according to him, were going on through aerial routs. He also had a dire warning for India, which had named him as the mastermind of the Mumbai attack of 2008. "We want to tell India, the country that has imposed itself on Kashmir, we want to tell them in clear, unequivocal terms that they can no longer continue using Kashmir as a weapon against Pakistan," Saeed warned. Moulana Samiul Haq, who has been designated the head of the alliance called the 'Movement for the Defence of Pakistan', invited the crowd to join hands in waging war against all the tyrant forces which cast eyes on the land of Pakistan. Earlier Syed Munawar Hassan, the chief of the Jamaat-e-Islami outlined the purpose of the council's creation.
