Discover Ferndale, a charming small town in Whatcom County, Washington, with a rich history and beautiful surroundings. Please visit our website for more information: http://www.BuyerMax.com Property Listings in Ferndale: https://www.buyermax.com/idx/search/h... The city of Ferndale is located in the western section of Whatcom County, approximately 98 miles North of Seattle WA, 40 miles south of Vancouver BC, and 10 miles north of Bellingham on I-5. The Lummi Nation has deep roots in the area and have lived in the most northwestern coastal areas of Washington state for thousands of years. The present-day city of Ferndale grew out of the early 18th-century town called “Jam” which was a reference to a nearby logjam on the Nooksack River. Pioneers began to settle the area; the first schoolteacher admired the lush green ferns growing around the schoolhouse and is credited with calling the town Ferndale. By the late 1800s, Ferndale had grown to be the third largest town in Whatcom County, and the town was officially incorporated in 1907. Today, Ferndale is home to a community of approximately 15,000 residents and occupies 6.6 sq miles on the banks of the Nooksack River which flows next to the downtown area. The majority of homes are single-family residence, but there has been an increase in multifamily residence in recent years as Ferndale has grown in population. The main thoroughfares are Main St. and Vista Dr., with I-5 running North and South on the eastern side of town. The new Thornton Street overpass will improve and provide access from Malloy Ave. to the Portal Way commercial area and downtown Ferndale. The park is preserved to show the lives of 20th-century pioneers in the Pacific Northwest and offers roughly 350 acres of recreational space as well as access to Tennant Lake and the Nooksack River. Ferndale is home to over 14 public parks and facilities as well as many golf courses in the surrounding area. The Ferndale School district is comprised of Ferndale High School, Vista, and Horizon middle schools, and six elementary schools serving approximately 4,700 students in grades preschool - 12th grade. One of the fastest growing cities in Whatcom County, Ferndale offers residents a suburban small-town setting with great schools, parks, and a growing business community with plenty of nearby recreation opportunities.
