In our quest to brew the ultimate dank IPA, we may have gone overboard with the hops. Many homebrewing lessons were re-learned the hard way. So put on some headphones or crank your speakers to 11 and scare your neighbors with this dank doom-metal disaster. In retrospect, I would swap a couple oz of Mosaic with the CTZ in the dry hop and use CTZ to bitter and throw in the whirlpool. A note on the yeast selection: I was kinda meh on the Voss Kveik, I would rather have used WLP 007/ Imperial House/ OYL British Ale 1. Or the Omega Pacific Northwest Ale. But not something as boring as Chico. Do a better job cold crashing/packaging than we did too. GLOSSARY FOR NEW BREWERS IPA: A beer that is very hop forward. If someone tells you "you know, India Pale Ales originally traveled from England to India over 6 months and blah blah blah" run away that person has no personality. Hops: The ingredients that give IPAs flavor and bitterness. There are many kinds of hops with vastly different flavors. Mash: The process of turning the starch from the malted barley into fermentable sugars by activating certain enzymes in the malt at specific temperatures in water. Sparge: Adding more water to further rinse the sugars from the grain in the mash. Wort: The unfermented sugars from the mash which will soon become beer. Kveik: A family of Norwegian yeasts that ferment well in hot temperatures. Gjaerkauk: Screaming at the wort before pitching yeast. Something of a running gag on this channel.
