"Street Stories" with Sacramento Sheriff Homeless Outreach Team

Over the past year, KCRA 3 reporter Vicki Gonzalez and photojournalist Marcelino Navarro followed along with the Sacramento Sheriff Homeless Outreach Team to abandoned buildings, vacant land, streets and sidewalks to better understand those struggling on the streets. And those seeking solutions, each of them with their own stories to share. The team comprises seven members for the entire Sacramento County. The goal of the team is not to criminalize those experiencing homelessness, but to connect them to services and housing. Each member builds a relationship with each person over months, and sometimes, years. Their goal is to chip away at deep-rooted issues and work toward solutions.
