Virtual Firewall: Operates at the instance level, filtering traffic before it reaches the instance. Stateful: If an inbound request is allowed, the corresponding outbound response is automatically permitted, regardless of outbound rules. Rule-Based: You define specific rules for allowed traffic (e.g., allow HTTP on port 80 from anywhere, or SSH on port 22 from your IP). VPC-Scoped: Created within a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) and can control resources in that VPC. How it Works: Association: You associate one or more security groups with your EC2 insta nces. Rule Evaluation: When traffic attempts to reach or leave an instance, the security group rules are checked. Traffic Control: Only traffic matching an "allow" rule passes; all other traffic is implicitly denied. Common Rules: Inbound: Allow incoming traffic (e.g., HTTP on port 80, HTTPS on port 443). Outbound: Allow outgoing traffic (e.g., all outbound to the internet). Example Scenario: For a web server, you'd create a security group allowing: Inbound: TCP traffic on port 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS) from 0.0.0.0/0 (anywhere). Outbound: All traffic to 0.0.0.0/0 (the internet). Internal: SSH (port 22) from your specific IP or internal network #public #video #viral #viralvideo
